FOIA Request to California State University Maritime Academy Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.
As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at Solano Sun have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the California State University Maritime Academy. This request seeks comprehensive data concerning students who are Chinese Nationals enrolled at the university.
Our inquiry specifically requests documents or lists detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected by privacy laws, we have asked for the total number of such students, broken down by department.
Additionally, we are seeking information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount of each scholarship and the identity of the grantors. We have also requested details about any scholarships associated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, our request extends to policies or procedures that outline how the university safeguards its Intellectual Property and other confidential information while monitoring students, including those who are Chinese Nationals.
This FOIA request is made on behalf of Solano Sun and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to informing the public and holding institutions accountable, access to these records is vital for our reporting efforts. We believe this request qualifies for a fee waiver due to its importance in promoting transparency and public awareness.
