FOIA Request to Solano Community College Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.
As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Solano Community College. This request seeks detailed information about the enrollment and scholarship details of Chinese National students at the college.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If student names are protected under privacy laws, we have requested aggregated data showing the total number of such students broken down by department.
Additionally, we are seeking information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount of each scholarship and the identity of the grantors. We have also asked for details on any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, our request includes a call for any policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors its students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
As members of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency through investigative journalism, we believe access to this information is crucial for public awareness and institutional accountability. We have requested a fee waiver as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to serve the public interest.
