John Garamendi, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district since 2009, addressed several key policy issues in a series of posts on April 30, 2026.
In his first post, Garamendi highlighted the financial pressures facing working families and announced his participation in a new initiative: “From rent to groceries to gas, working families are getting squeezed. We need bold solutions that lower costs and hold powerful interests accountable. I’m joining @USProgressives to launch the New Affordability Agenda.” (April 30, 2026)
Later that day, Garamendi commented on ongoing conflict and political responsibility, stating: “Hegseth was upset yesterday, but the fact is he and Trump own this war. Democrats aren’t the adversary we represent the more than 60% of the American people who don’t want this war. They’ve gotten us stuck in a war and there’s end in sight.” (April 30, 2026)
In another post focused on domestic industry, Garamendi advocated for revitalizing America’s maritime sector: “America’s maritime industry has been overlooked for far too long. Revitalizing it will strengthen our national security and create good-paying jobs here at home. Read @SenMarkKelly and I’s op-ed on why we need the SHIPS for America Act.” (April 30, 2026)
Garamendi has served in Congress since replacing Ellen Tauscher in 2009 and previously held roles in both the California State Assembly and Senate. Born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945 and currently residing in Walnut Grove, he holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard University.
