John Garamendi, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district since 2009, used his social media platform this week to comment on several national issues, including economic policy, foreign affairs, and government oversight.

On April 15, 2026, Garamendi criticized the current economic situation in a post that stated: “Donald Trump and House Republicans promised relief, but instead they delivered higher costs. The following day, April 16, he addressed foreign policy matters regarding Iran: “Today I voted YES to end Trump’s reckless war of choice with Iran. Later on April 16, Garamendi expressed concerns about transparency in government operations involving private contractors: “Congress has a duty to conduct oversight and the reporting on Palantir’s role in DHS operations raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability. John Garamendi was born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945 and currently resides in Walnut Grove at age 78. He holds degrees from both the University of California, Berkeley (1966) and Harvard University (1970). Before serving in Congress for California’s 8th District—where he succeeded Ellen Tauscher—he was a member of both the California State Assembly (1974-1976) and State Senate (1976-1990).
