John Garamendi, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district since 2009, has recently shared a series of posts on social media addressing national safety, congressional procedure, and his representation of constituents.
On October 16, 2025, Garamendi posted, “These are dangerous times, especially if you’re a person of color, struggling to access health insurance, or living in a big city. So who’s “safe” from the Trump’s administration? The truth is: no one is fully safe.”
Later that day, he commented on a congressional matter, writing, “Mike Johnson refuses to swear in Rep.-Elect Grijalva despite having the power to do so, all because she would be the final signature needed to release the Epstein files. I stand with Grijalva. I stand with the people of Arizona’s 7th. And I stand with the will of the people.”
In a subsequent post, Garamendi referenced his constituents, stating, “Tell that to the 748,589 people in Contra Costa and Solano Counties who I represent in Congress.”
Garamendi has represented California’s 8th district in Congress since 2009, succeeding Ellen Tauscher. He previously served in the California State Assembly and State Senate. Born in 1945 in Camp Blanding, Florida, Garamendi resides in Walnut Grove and holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard University.
