John Garamendi, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district, recently shared a series of tweets reflecting both personal and national concerns. Garamendi, who has been serving in Congress since 2009 after replacing Ellen Tauscher, posted about family celebrations, a security-related incident, and the passing of a prominent religious leader.
On April 20, Garamendi expressed joy over family gatherings during Easter. He stated, “Happy to be celebrating Easter with the Garamendi clan! Grateful for the love and laughter here today. Wishing everyone a joyful and blessed #Easter filled with peace, good food, and great company.”
The following day, on April 21, Garamendi addressed a security concern involving Pete Hegseth, a television host and former military officer. Garamendi wrote, “Pete Hegseth shared military attack plans over an unsecured app AGAIN—even involving his wife and brother. His recklessness is a threat to national security. Republicans must demand his resignation before it’s too late.”
Later on April 21, Garamendi paid tribute to Pope Francis after his passing. He mourned the leader’s influence and compassion, stating, “Patti and I mourn Pope Francis — a champion for the poor, migrants, peace, and our planet. His courage and compassion changed the world. His legacy will live forever. Rest in peace, Holy Father.”
John Garamendi’s background includes a long political career starting in the California State Assembly and advancing to the State Senate before his current role in Congress. An alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley, and Harvard University, Garamendi was born in 1945 in Camp Blanding, Florida, and resides in Walnut Grove.
