John Garamendi, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 8th district, shared several statements on social media regarding recent events and legislative actions. Garamendi has been an influential figure in politics since his initial service in the California State Assembly and Senate.
On March 5, 2025, Garamendi expressed his condolences over the death of Rep. Sylvester Turner. He stated: “Patti and I are heartbroken to hear of Rep. Sylvester Turner’s passing. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. He was a tireless advocate for Texans, and his legacy will continue to inspire.”
Later that day, he criticized former President Donald Trump and Alina Habba regarding their comments about veterans. On March 5, 2025, he remarked: “Donald Trump called fallen soldiers ‘suckers’ and ‘losers’ – he has never respected veterans… Alina Habba’s comments were outrageous. Maybe she should get a new job!”
In addition to addressing these issues, Garamendi highlighted his support for workers’ rights by joining fellow lawmakers in backing the PRO Act. On March 5, 2025, he tweeted: “As a member of the @Labor_Caucus, I’m proud to join over 100 of my colleagues in introducing the #PROAct… Workers should be able to exercise their right to organize free from intimidation or retaliation – it’s that simple.”
