John Garamendi, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district since 2009, recently used his social media platform to inform constituents about upcoming town halls and community recognitions.
On November 3, 2025, Garamendi posted a reminder about a virtual event: “REMINDER: Today, I’m hosting a town hall at 7 PM where we’ll cover the ongoing congressional negotiations to end the shutdown, the SNAP crisis, and more. The following day, on November 4, he acknowledged local leaders in his district: “This year 54 extraordinary change makers in California’s 8th Congressional District received the distinct honor of Women of the Year. Thank you for all your service to our communities. https://t.co/riJW0Sbz3h”.

Garamendi has served as the representative for California’s 8th district since replacing Ellen Tauscher in 2009. Before his tenure in Congress, he held positions in both the California State Assembly from 1974 to 1976 and the California State Senate from 1976 to 1990. Born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945 and currently residing in Walnut Grove at age 78, Garamendi is an alumnus of UC Berkeley and Harvard University.
