John Garamendi, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district since 2009, recently made several statements on social media regarding government transparency and environmental protection.
On November 18, 2025, Garamendi announced his support for releasing documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. He stated, “I just voted YES to release the Epstein files because no politician and no billionaire is above the law. Trump and Speaker Johnson spent months trying to bury this depraved web of abuse. President Trump: do the right thing and order the DOJ to release the files.”
Later that day, Garamendi addressed environmental policy concerns in another post. He wrote, “Protecting clean water isn’t partisan—it’s universal. We all need clean water. 94% of Americans say safeguarding our rivers, lakes, and streams is important, but EPA’s Polluted Water Rule rolls back our safeguards. Stop the gutting, protect our water.”
On November 19, 2025, Garamendi criticized a congressional colleague’s vote regarding the Epstein files: “@RepHiggin’s sole vote in Congress not to release the files is disgusting. The last time I was the sole no vote was for something worthy. Not extending the war in Afghanistan. Get your priorities straight!”
Garamendi has served in Congress since replacing Ellen Tauscher in 2009 and previously held positions in both chambers of California’s state legislature. Born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945 and currently residing in Walnut Grove at age 78, he holds degrees from UC Berkeley (1966) and Harvard University (1970).
