John Garamendi, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 8th district since 2009, has used his social media platform to criticize recent actions by political figures and highlight issues affecting Californians.

On October 20, 2025, Garamendi posted on X: “Trump and Vought- the architect of Project 2025- are once again stealing money from hardworking Californians for the sole purpose of inflicting pain on their political rivals. Freezing $11 billion for flood control projects is not only idiotic, it’s unsafe. Do the right thing,”.

Later that day, he commented on changes to the White House’s appearance, writing: “One day after No Kings Day, Trump turns the White House into a gold-plated palace.” (October 20, 2025).

On October 21, 2025, Garamendi criticized Kristi Noem’s spending decisions, stating: “Working families are paying triple for health care, and Kristi Noem is wasting $170 million on two private planes. The Coast Guard is still protecting us without pay. She should do her job and fly commercial like the rest of us. @TransportDems”.

Garamendi has represented California’s 8th District in Congress since 2009 after previously serving in both the California State Assembly and Senate. He was born in Camp Blanding, Florida, in 1945 and currently resides in Walnut Grove. Garamendi holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and Harvard University.
