John Garamendi, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district, has raised concerns on social media about the impact of recent Republican proposals and Trump administration policies on healthcare access and the Bay Area economy.
On March 30, 2026, Garamendi wrote: “Cutting health care to pay for the Iran war? This Republican party has their priorities all out of whack.
If their proposal moves forward, 300,000 will be kicked off their health care and premiums would skyrocket all to pay for Trump’s unending war of choice in Iran.
Americans”.
A day later, on March 31, he cited a new study’s findings regarding immigration policy: “A new study finds that President Trump’s mass deportation agenda is costing the Bay Area $67 billion annually.
From lost labor to tax revenue shortfalls, Trump is driving up costs for everyone while terrorizing neighbors and tearing communities apart. https://t.co/7hQhBCXMoi“.
On April 1, Garamendi focused on healthcare cuts in Contra Costa: “93,000 Contra Costa residents could lose Medi-Cal because of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.
No family should have to choose between medicine and food.
That’s why I’m fighting in Washington to stop these cuts, restore funding, and ensure everyone has healthcare.

John Garamendi has represented California’s 8th district in Congress since 2009 after succeeding Ellen Tauscher.
