John Garamendi, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district since 2009, has recently taken to social media to criticize House Republicans and call for the release of the so-called “Epstein files.” In a series of tweets posted on July 22 and July 23, Garamendi accused congressional leadership of obstructing transparency.
On July 22, Garamendi wrote: “House Republicans are so scared of what’s in the Epstein files, they shut down Congress for a month to block it.
Speaker Johnson could’ve chosen transparency—instead he’s protecting Trump and elites while risking a government shutdown
The following day, Garamendi reiterated his demand with a brief statement: “Release the files. https://t.co/pD6exlDTys” (July 23).
Later that same day, Garamendi commented on disaster response under former President Trump’s administration. He quoted an exchange about FEMA’s presence in Texas: ‘”It took 9 days for you to show up in Texas following the disaster there… Is that the new normal?”
Trump Head of FEMA: “I remained in Washington, DC” https://t.co/v5M0rmRngb‘ (July 23).
John Garamendi has represented California’s 8th District since succeeding Ellen Tauscher in 2009. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both the California State Assembly from 1974 to 1976 and the California State Senate from 1976 to 1990. Born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945, Garamendi is currently based in Walnut Grove. He holds degrees from UC Berkeley and Harvard University.
