John Garamendi, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 8th district since 2009, posted several statements on October 30, 2025, criticizing recent legislative actions regarding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and healthcare.
In a tweet from that day, Garamendi wrote: “Did you get permission from Trump to post this? Stop starving children. Read the law.” (October 30, 2025).
Later the same morning, he continued his criticism with another post: “You control the House, Senate and White House. You wrote the bill with the biggest cut to SNAP in history. I voted to lower healthcare costs.” (October 30, 2025).
In a third tweet that afternoon, Garamendi added: “Again, you passed a bill that cuts SNAP for 100,000 and cuts healthcare for 300,000 people in my district. Spare me.” (October 30, 2025).
John Garamendi has held office in Congress since succeeding Ellen Tauscher in 2009 and previously served in both chambers of California’s state legislature. He is currently based in Walnut Grove and was born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945. Garamendi earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and later graduated from Harvard University.
