On March 3, 2025, Garamendi highlighted the termination of malaria supplies that protect 53 million people, predominantly children. He stated: “All malaria supplies protecting 53 million people, mostly children, including bed nets, diagnostics, preventive drugs, and treatments: TERMINATED. Millions will go without life-saving measures.”
Later that day, he conveyed his dismay at actions taken by political leaders Donald Trump and President Musk. In his tweet at 20:40 UTC on March 3rd, he remarked: “I am deeply disturbed to see Trump and President Musk end programs that will inevitably result in millions of preventable deaths.”
At 21:55 UTC on the same day, Garamendi announced his participation with over 200 House Democrats in urging Speaker Johnson and House Republicans to refrain from altering Social Security and healthcare programs.
