John Garamendi, a seasoned politician representing California’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2009, has recently taken to social media to express his concerns on several pressing issues. With a background that includes serving in the California State Assembly and Senate, Garamendi continues to be an active voice on matters affecting American families.
On May 13, 2025, Garamendi criticized what he described as corruption within the Trump administration. He stated “It’s corruption in ‘plane’ sight. Meanwhile, working families struggle to make rent or pay for groceries.” He thanked @CallToActivism for highlighting these issues.
The following day, May 14, 2025, Garamendi addressed a proposed budget cut by Trump and House Republicans. He expressed concern over the potential impact of a $715 billion Medicaid budget reduction, stating it “would devastate millions of families – especially families with disabilities.” He highlighted that in Contra Costa and Solano Counties, 40% of residents rely on Medi-Cal and committed to fighting against these cuts.
Later that day, Garamendi reacted strongly against policies affecting environmental safety. He tweeted about Trump’s actions regarding water safety: “This is CRAZY. Trump is effectively putting toxic chemicals back in our drinking water.” He assured his followers that he and fellow House Democrats would oppose this measure vigorously.
John Garamendi was born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945 and resides in Walnut Grove. An alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard University, he has dedicated decades to public service.
