John Garamendi, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 8th district since 2009, has recently used his social media platform to criticize officials and policies associated with former President Donald Trump. On November 17, 2025, Garamendi commented on the resignation of a Trump administration official: “Another incompetent Trump official steps down — and not a moment too soon.
In honor of his last day, here’s a throwback to his ‘defense’ of his disastrous response to the Texas hurricane relief effort.”
Later that same day, Garamendi addressed concerns over rising food prices in advance of Thanksgiving. He wrote: “Thanksgiving is already stressful enough without having to worry about the high cost of food.
Turkeys prices have increased 40% due to Trump’s inflationary policies.
President Trump and Republicans in Congress need to get serious and work with Democrats to lower prices for” (November 17, 2025).
On November 18, Garamendi continued his criticism by responding directly to an unnamed administration official: “Could you stop lying? Your own pinned tweet is the FAFSA sign-up.
This Administration is a disgrace, and @HouseDemocrats will be spending years cleaning up the mess you’ve made.”
John Garamendi has served in Congress since succeeding Ellen Tauscher in 2009. Prior to his current role, he was a member of the California State Assembly from 1974 to 1976 and served in the California State Senate from 1976 until 1990. Born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945, Garamendi is now based in Walnut Grove. He holds degrees from both the University of California, Berkeley (1966) and Harvard University (1970).
