John Garamendi, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 8th district since 2009, has recently used his social media platform to criticize former President Donald Trump and comment on policy issues.
On November 19, 2025, Garamendi posted: “What if Trump just lowered the cost of eggs instead of tearing down the WH East Wing, giving Argentina $40 Billion, cutting Medicaid and SNAP, covering up the Epstein files, and gutting USAID?”
A day later, on November 20, 2025, Garamendi responded to a controversial statement allegedly made by President Trump: “The President of the United States just called for Democratic members of Congress to be executed. This is not normal behavior, and every person in power, Republican and Democrat, should demand he stop. President Trump, please delete this post now. Put a stop to political”
Later that same day, Garamendi referenced his work on environmental policy: “At the Department of the Interior, I worked to limit offshore oil and gas drilling. My first bill in Congress was to ban offshore drilling. This year, I joined @RepCarbajal to ban future drilling in California. Trump has no right to our shores and I’ll fight to protect them.”
Garamendi’s comments reflect ongoing partisan tensions over domestic spending priorities and presidential conduct. He also highlighted his legislative efforts regarding environmental protection and opposition to offshore drilling along California’s coast.
Since entering Congress in 2009 after replacing Ellen Tauscher ([source](https://bioguide.congress.gov/search/bio/G000559)), Garamendi has been active on energy policy issues. Prior to his tenure in Washington D.C., he served in both the California State Assembly (1974-1976) and State Senate (1976-1990). Born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945 and currently residing in Walnut Grove at age 78, Garamendi holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley (1966) and Harvard University (1970).
