John Garamendi, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district since 2009, has been vocal about his opposition to a legislative proposal he refers to as “Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.” In a series of tweets, Garamendi outlines his concerns regarding the bill’s potential impact on power grids and healthcare.
On July 2, 2025, Garamendi expressed concern over the legislation’s implications for national infrastructure. He stated “Trump’s Big Ugly Bill will devastate our country’s power grids.”
Continuing his critique into the next day, on July 3, 2025, Garamendi warned of adverse effects on healthcare services in America. He tweeted “We got a problem America. Trump’s Big Ugly Bill is going to take away your mom’s healthcare. It’s morally appalling, it’s gross, and @HouseDemocrats are fighting it tooth and nail.” His statement indicates strong opposition from House Democrats against the bill.
In another tweet posted shortly after, also on July 3rd, Garamendi addressed fellow politician David Valadao directly. He urged Valadao to reconsider his stance on the proposed legislation by stating “David Valadao there’s still time to vote no. You can save 70% of your constituents’s healthcare.”
John Garamendi has served in Congress since replacing Ellen Tauscher in 2009 and previously held positions in both the California State Assembly and Senate.
