John Garamendi, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district since 2009, posted a series of messages on social media commemorating Labor Day and commenting on recent legislative efforts regarding the release of the Epstein files.
On September 1, 2025, Garamendi highlighted key achievements of the labor movement, stating, “Today, we celebrate the hard-fought achievements of the labor movement, from the 8-hour workday to workplace safety protections and the weekend. I’m proud to stand with my @Labor_Caucus colleagues and fight for workers every day in Congress. #SolidarityForever”.
Later that day, he shared his participation in a local event: “Honored to join the Napa Solano Labor Council at @Ironworkers378 for Labor Day. The 8-hour workday, the weekend and the minimum wage weren’t given—they were won through decades of struggle by union organizers. Today we honor those achievements.”
On September 3, Garamendi addressed legislative developments concerning transparency over high-profile files: “I signed onto the discharge petition to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files. Trump and Speaker Johnson were so scared that they shut down the House to block it. Trump broke his pledge of transparency. Democrats will deliver it.”
Garamendi has served in Congress since replacing Ellen Tauscher in 2009 and previously held positions in both chambers of California’s state legislature. Born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945 and currently residing in Walnut Grove, he holds degrees from UC Berkeley and Harvard University.
