John Garamendi, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 8th District, has been vocal about recent legislative issues on social media. Garamendi, who has a long history of public service since joining Congress in 2009, recently took to the platform to express his concerns and announce upcoming legislative events.

On April 29, 2025, Garamendi critiqued legislative moves by Republicans, characterizing their efforts as creating a massive, unallocated financial fund for figures like Trump and Hegseth. He questioned the priorities behind these actions, emphasizing the potential impact on children’s nutrition. Garamendi posted, “Republicans are trying to hand Trump and Hegseth a $150 billion slush fund with no plan. ‘Have we lost our minds? $150 billion out of the mouths of children who are not going to get a school lunch. That’s what’s happening here.'”

On April 30, 2025, Garamendi invited the public to participate in a media event by sharing details about a press conference introducing the SHIPS Act, calling it a significant piece of legislation. He urged constituents to watch the announcement online, stating, “Tune in today at 8:30AM PT/11:30AM ET to watch my press conference introducing the historic SHIPS Act!”

Later on the same day, he commented on fiscal priorities, suggesting a reassessment is needed. Garamendi tweeted his appreciation for Representative Sara Jacobs, who highlighted similar concerns about budget allocations. His statement, “You have to laugh to keep from crying. Taking school lunches away to pay for make up studios is unconscionable. Great job @RepSaraJacobs for pointing out the real waste, fraud, and abuse.” reflects his stance on the issue.

John Garamendi, born in 1945 in Camp Blanding, Florida, has been residing in Walnut Grove. He is an alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley, and Harvard University and began his political career in the California State Assembly, later serving in the State Senate.
