John Garamendi, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 8th district since 2009, recently posted several messages on social media addressing issues of congressional ethics, foreign policy, and local community funding.
On December 5, 2025, Garamendi questioned the actions of fellow Congress member Young Kim by posting: “What is @RepYoungKim hiding? She reportedly took multiple trips costing over $50,000 without notifying ethics officials. From Patel’s private plane misuse to Rep. Mills’ alleged gifts in the Middle East, GOP ethics issues keep piling up. We need a full investigation.”
Later that day, he commented on U.S. foreign policy towards Venezuela under former President Donald Trump: “Trump is dragging our country into a war with Venezuela. Congress needs to put on its big boy pants and demand real oversight of the Trump Administration. Anything less is a disservice to the American people.” This statement was also posted on December 5.
In another post from December 5, Garamendi highlighted his recent work securing funding for projects within his district: “Everyone’s doing it, so here’s my Spotify Wrapped! From a new library in Bay Point, to safer streets in Fairfield, to better lighting on BART, to repairing outdated sewage systems on Mare Island, I’m proud to share my mix/tape of community funding projects for our district this”
Garamendi has represented California’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Ellen Tauscher in 2009 and previously served both in the California State Assembly and Senate. Born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945 and currently residing in Walnut Grove at age 78, Garamendi graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and later from Harvard University.
