John Garamendi, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 8th district, recently shared several statements on social media addressing various topics. His tweets reflect his ongoing engagement with cultural heritage, legislative processes, and environmental issues.

On March 12, 2025, Garamendi reflected on a symbolic event from nine years prior when he led a planting ceremony for a Gernikako Arbola on the Capitol grounds. He noted his recent visit to this tree with Imanol Pradales, the Basque President. As a Basque American, Garamendi expressed gratitude towards Pradales and anticipation for future collaboration. “9 years ago, I led a planting ceremony on the Capitol grounds for a Gernikako Arbola, a symbol of the Basque Country. Today, I visited this tree with Imanol Pradales, the Basque President. As a Basque American, I thank Pradeles and look forward to further collaboration.”

On March 13, 2025, Garamendi criticized House Republicans’ continuing resolution (CR), which he claims would allow former President Trump to move funds without restriction. He stated that House Democrats are united in supporting a four-week funding extension to keep the government operational and prevent harmful budget cuts. Garamendi affirmed his readiness to vote in favor of this extension at any time within the week. “House Republicans’s CR will let Trump move money however he wants. Unacceptable. House Democrats are united behind a four-week funding extension that keeps the gov open and stops harmful cuts. I am ready to vote today, tomorrow or Friday to pass a four-week extension.”

Later that day, Garamendi addressed environmental concerns by criticizing actions taken by Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He highlighted their rollback of 31 regulations intended to protect public health and address climate change issues. Emphasizing scientific evidence linking carbon dioxide pollution to health risks, Garamendi vowed to continue advocating for climate justice.“Trump’s EPA is rolling back 31 regulations that protect public health and address the climate crisis. Mountains of evidence show carbon dioxide pollution endangers human health and welfare. Don’t believe their lies. I will always fight for climate justice.”
