John Garamendi, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 8th District since 2009, recently took to social media to address various issues concerning actions by Elon Musk and Donald Trump. In his posts, Garamendi expressed concerns over their perceived unlawful activities and the impact on international aid efforts.

On February 5, 2025, Garamendi announced a bilingual telephone town hall scheduled for that evening. He invited constituents to join him in discussing how Congress can respond to "Trump and Musk’s unlawful actions." The announcement was made via a tweet stating: "TONIGHT AT 6PM PT: I am holding a bilingual telephone townhall to hear your concerns on how Congress can fight back against Trump and Musk’s unlawful actions."

In another post dated February 7, 2025, Garamendi criticized Elon Musk's alleged interference with USAID operations and called Trump's accusations "ludicrous." Reflecting on his personal experience with USAID during his service in Ethiopia with his wife Patti, he stated: "Elon Musk has NO right to shut down USAID, and Donald Trump’s accusations are ludicrous."

Continuing on February 7, 2025, Garamendi voiced frustration over what he perceives as Musk's influence over critical humanitarian efforts. He highlighted the importance of USAID's work in combating child hunger globally by tweeting: "It infuriates me that the world’s richest man is dictating to the world’s most desperate children when to eat."
