Garamendi, who has been serving in Congress since 2009 after succeeding Ellen Tauscher, expressed concerns about current strategies affecting global health initiatives.

On February 7, 2025, Garamendi tweeted about former President George Bush’s contributions to malaria prevention. He questioned current efforts by stating: "Republican President George Bush’s work was crucial to ensuring that the fight to eradicate malaria overseas would prevent malaria from entering our borders." He also criticized Trump's approach by asking if firing top scientists working on preventing malaria outbreaks aligns with making America great again.

In another tweet posted on the same day, Garamendi commented on the Republican party's stance regarding life issues. He stated: "Again, this is a result of the so-called 'pro-life' party."

Garamendi further addressed global health supply chain issues in his final tweet for the day. Criticizing President Musk's cost-efficiency measures, he wrote: "Shutting down global health supply chains that waste massive amounts of HIV and malaria medicine is not the cost-efficient move President Musk thinks it is…"
