On April 14, 2025, Garamendi expressed his support for President Biden's CHIPS Act, describing it as a means of "rebuilding American industry." He contrasted this with his view of former President Trump’s trade policies, calling the trade war "foolish, nonsense, sloppy," and argued that it "jacked up your grocery bill." He invited his audience to share their opinions about Trump's trade war in the comments, signaling a call for public dialogue. The following day, April 15, Garamendi commemorated the 78th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier. He emphasized Robinson's roles as a "veteran, civil rights icon, and trailblazer," crediting him with changing both the sport and the nation. Garamendi also criticized an attempt by Trump to diminish Robinson's military achievements, asserting Robinson's enduring legacy. "A veteran, civil rights icon, and trailblazer, he forever changed the game—and our nation...no effort can erase Jackie Robinson’s legacy".

Later that day, Garamendi shared his gratitude for receiving the Maritime Leadership Award, an honor bestowed by USA Maritime. He reiterated his dedication to enhancing maritime power and industry, expressing a desire to advance the SHIPS Act. "Honored to receive the Maritime Leadership Award from @USA_Maritime...Let's bring the SHIPS Act into port".
