Solano County issued the following announcement on Nov. 6.
The Solano County Probation Department has begun using a one-year, $275,627 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to supervise high-risk, repeat DUI offenders with suspended or revoked licenses.
“Our monitoring program helps high risk DUI clients stay on track and meet the terms of their probation,” says Solano County Chief Probation Officer, Christopher Hansen. “With the right guidance and essential treatment services, coupled with accountability, it is hoped these repeat DUI clients will make better choices and refrain from drinking and driving.”
The grant period is from Oct. 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021. Grant funding will be used to collaborate with court officials and prosecutor’s offices to establish probation orders, compliance with court ordered terms of probation, check-ins with clients, alcohol testing, officer training in Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) and to assist local law enforcement agencies with DUI Checkpoints.
“Prevention is the best tool to address the significant traffic safety issue of DUI,” said OTS Director Barbara Rooney. “The goal of probation programs is to help people convicted of DUI offense not put themselves in a position where they would make the same mistake again.”
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
