Later that day, Garamendi critiqued expenditure by Elon Musk and DOGE on migrant detention. He shared his concerns on "spending $40 million jailing fewer than 400 migrants", describing it as "wasteful, legally questionable, and harms our military’s readiness." Garamendi emphasized the need for transparency by insisting that "Congress and the American people deserve answers."
