On January 22, 2025, Garamendi issued a statement regarding Donald Trump's decision to pardon individuals involved in the storming of the U.S. Capitol. He shared his views via Twitter: "My statement on Donald Trump's pardoning of the criminals who stormed the U.S. Capitol."

The following day, January 23, 2025, Garamendi addressed concerns about citizenship rights for children born in America. He criticized House Republicans and President Trump for attempting to revoke these rights: "If you are born in America, you are an American. House Republicans and President Trump must stop trying to take away citizenship from kids born in America."

Later that same day, Garamendi commented on President Trump's decision to deploy troops to the border. He described this action as unnecessary and harmful to military readiness: "President Trump sending 1,500 troops to the border is unnecessary, wasteful, and harms our military’s readiness. We need solutions, not political stunts."
