John Garamendi, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 8th district, took to social media to share his concerns about recent legislative actions and naval challenges. A member of Congress since 2009, Garamendi has a lengthy political career, having previously served in both the California State Assembly and the California State Senate.

On April 10, 2025, Garamendi voiced criticism of recent legislation by House Republicans, describing it as the largest Medicaid cuts in history that could impact 250,000 people in his district. He stated, "House Republicans just passed the largest Medicaid cuts in history—hurting 250,000 people in my district—while handing trillions in tax breaks to billionaire donors like Elon Musk. Democrats are fighting for working families, not billionaire CEOs."

Later that day, he referenced comments from Navy Secretary Phelan, who admitted to underestimating the complexity of shipbuilding. Garamendi, with 16 years of experience, expressed his commitment to addressing these challenges through the SHIPS Act, stating, "Navy Sec Phelan says he 'may have underestimated' the complexity...After 16 years, I know how tough these challenges are. That's why I'm fighting with @SenMarkKelly for the SHIPS Act. I didn't come to complain—I came to solve problems."

Garamendi also criticized efforts by House Republicans to pass the "SAVE" Act and an anti-voting order. He argued that these measures would disenfranchise voters and result in wasted resources, asserting, "House Republicans’ so-called “SAVE” Act and Trump’s anti-voting order...Democrats are fighting back to ensure every American can make their voice heard."

John Garamendi was born in Camp Blanding, Florida in 1945 and currently resides in Walnut Grove. He is an alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard University. His political career has been marked by advocacy in both state and national forums , reflecting his extensive experience and commitment to public service.
