John Garamendi, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 8th district since 2009, has recently expressed his views on various political issues through a series of tweets. On January 25, 2025, Garamendi criticized Pete Hegeseth's potential appointment as Secretary of Defense. He stated that "Character counts, and Pete Hegeseth’s troublesome character issues will no doubt erode the standards of the military." He further described Hegeseth as "clearly and undoubtedly unqualified on all accounts."

In another tweet dated January 27, 2025, Garamendi demanded answers from the Department of Defense regarding its involvement in what he described as Trump's "cruel mass deportation campaign." He shared a link to his full statement and emphasized his concerns by stating "Last week, I demanded answers from the DOD over the use of military assets for Trump's cruel mass deportation campaign."

On January 28, 2025, Garamendi commented on President Trump's early days in office. He claimed that Trump had already caused significant disruption within the government. According to Garamendi's tweet: "Not even two weeks into his presidency and Trump has thrown the entire government into chaos." He warned that essential services such as food assistance and student loans would be affected.
