John Garamendi, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 8th district, recently expressed his concerns through a series of tweets regarding the termination of several critical programs. His statements reflect on issues ranging from drug smuggling to public health initiatives.

On March 3, 2025, Garamendi tweeted about the termination of a screening program with the Mexican government aimed at identifying illicit drugs such as fentanyl being smuggled across the US border. He stated, "Screening program with the Mexican government to identify illicit drugs like fentanyl being smuggled at the US border: TERMINATED. Opioids will spill through our borders, causing preventable American deaths."

In another tweet posted on March 3, 2025, he highlighted the cessation of USAID’s contract that supported prevention and response efforts for deadly outbreaks in 50 countries. He remarked, "USAID’s contract supporting deadly outbreak prevention, detection, and response, including Ebola and Bird Flu, in 50 countries: TERMINATED."

Further addressing healthcare concerns on March 3, 2025, Garamendi mentioned the discontinuation of services provided by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. He noted that these services reached hundreds of thousands globally affected by HIV/AIDS. His tweet read: "Services from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation - just one organization - reaching 350,000 people on HIV treatment, including nearly 10,000 children and more than 10,000 HIV-positive pregnant women: TERMINATED."
